Emely Taveras
is a queer, disabled, first-generation Dominican American writer exploring chronic illness, sexual identity, and familial trauma. She recently won Peatsmoke Journal's 2025 Editor's Prize in Fiction and has work published in The Branches Journal, Peatsmoke Journal, The Bloomin' Onion, and ExPat Press. A 2025 Lighthouse Writers Workshop Writing in Color Writership recipient, she graduated summa cum laude from Kean University with a B.A. in English Writing. Emely is a wedding photographer turned essayist, film enthusiast, and sketchbook addict, collecting fragments of peace through pen, lens, and brush. She loves books, loud feelings, and talking about the hometown she escaped. Currently seeking calm (and good lighting) in Jersey City and NYC.
